Feasibility Studies

The goal of this study is to determine project feasibility and alignment with the business strategy. During this stage, the Fabri project team work to understand project drivers and identify viable opportunities to pursue, with an emphasis on business goals and the probability of success.

The deliverables of the Feasibility Study include:

  • A clear set of expectations
  • An OOM estimate
  • Holistic Risk Assessment
  • Defined list of capital and manpower resources

Front End Engineering Design Studies (FEED)

During the FEED Stage, different project options are evaluated and compared based on uncertainties, risk and other factors associated with each option. Information required by the client’s representative to review and approve the project for the next stage, is taken from the Define Stage Activities.

The plan for the next stage incorporates:

  • Engineering documents such as Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Drawing (P&ID), plot plans, heat and material balances, single line electrical diagrams and major equipment specifications
  • Refined Project scope and design definition
  • Resource loaded CPM project plan
  • Class 2 estimate
  • Holistic Risk Assessment: risk identification/elimination to freeze scope
  • Deliverables for this stage include a preliminary Project Execution Plan (PEP), an approved contracting strategy, a change management plan and appropriate resources and funding for the detailed design stage.

At the end of this stage a project option is selected, or it is determined that the project is no longer feasible.

Detailed Design

The goals for the Detailed Design Stage are to finalise project scope, cost and schedule.  During this stage, the Fabri project team develops and defines the selected option. Then, the appropriate level of detailed planning and design, needed to determine the project scope and to develop cost and schedule estimates, is also defined:

  • PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, single line diagrams, controls and ESD logic and other drawings defining the scope are completed to Approved for Design (AFD) status.
  • Design and procurement specifications are finalised.
  • Long-lead items have been identified and Purchase Orders are ready for issue.  With Executive Management approval, some critical long-lead items may be procured prior to completion of detailed design.
  • Major contracts have been identified and are in place.
  • HAZID & HAZOP reviews have been completed.

At the end of this stage, the project scope is fully defined and agreed upon.

Site Supervision

Fabri use Resident Engineers working to CDM regulations to run site based projects who then report to Project Engineers at our head office.  This is backed up by frequent site checks from the project engineers over the life cycle of the project.
